Peace & Conflict Publishers List

Please refer to below a list of publishers interested in peace- and conflict-related subjects areas. Two versions of the list are attached for reference. Further contributions to the list are welcomed.

Academic Press:
As part of Elsevier Science and Technology, Academic Press has been a leading publisher of scientific books. The main focuses are areas in life and physical sciences, such as psychology.

The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes, based in South Africa, publishes the African Journal on Conflict Resolution (2 per year) as well as Conflict Trends Magazine (Quarterly) and various other publications.

Ashgate publishes cutting-edge research books or journals and specialist reference books in Humanties and Social Science subject areas. Previous publications include peace-building processes, peace research, economy, and ethnics.


Brookings Institution Press:
The press publishes books that result from the Institution’s own research and books of a similar nature written by other authors. Main subject areas are conflict zones under peace-building processes, U.S. foreign policy, and UN operations.


Cambridge University Press:
Cambridge is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious academic publishers. Our publishing extends across virtually every academic discipline and through every level of specialism from the research monograph through to popular titles for a general readership. Peace-related areas include UN operations, history, law, security issues, etc.

Commonwealth Secretariat:
The material produced covers policy issues, case studies and good practice promotion in areas of Commonwealth expertise, including globalisation and multilateral trade issues, export and enterprise development, education, gender, public service management and reform, law and human rights, and issues of concern to small states.

Cornell University Press:
The Press publishes nonfiction, with particular strengths in anthropology, Asian studies, history, industrial relations, literary criticism and theory, philosophy, politics and international relations, and women’s studies.

Council on Foreign Relations:
The publication type of books published by the Council is mainly foreign policy analyses written by CFR fellows and by the trade presses, academic presses, or the CFR Press.

CSIS publishes a wide range of timely materials of interest to readers in the policy, government, business, and academic communities. These publications include books written by CSIS scholars and published via The CSIS Press; reports from CSIS experts addressing current topics; and newsletters from our various programs.





Georgetown University Press:
Publications majorly cover ethics, international affairs & human rights, political science, religion, etc.

Good Books:
Peace and conflict related subjects include justice and peacemaking.


Harvard University Press:
Subject areas HUP focuses on are foreign relations, diplomacy, history, post-conflict social analysis, etc.

Hawthorn Press:
Hawthorn Press publications include Art and Science, Conflict and Peace, Social Ecology and Management and Rudolf Steiner/Waldorf Education Series.


IDRC Books:
IDRC books publications cover subjects in economics, environment, health, communication, natural resources, social development, etc.

Information Age Publishing:
Founded in 1999, IAP is a social science publisher of academic and scholarly book series and journals. Publications mainly focus on education, history and development.


Johns Hopkins University Press:
The JHU Press is one of the world’s largest university presses, publishing 60 scholarly journals and nearly 200 new books each year. Award-winning lists in history, science, literary studies, political science, and medicine reach a worldwide audience of scholars, students, and discerning readers. Previous publications cover subjects of US foreign policy and international peace-keeping initiatives.

Jossey-Bass publishes books, periodicals, and other media to inform and inspire those interested in developing themselves, their organizations and their communities. Jossey-Bass’ publications feature the work of some of the world’s best-known authors in leadership, business, education, religion and spirituality, parenting, nonprofit, conflict resolution and relationships.


Kumarian Press:
Kumarian Press was founded in 1977 by Krishna Sondhi and Ian Mayo-Smith to respond to the expressed need for books on international development and management that were geared to the needs of developing countries. Kumarian’s range of topics has expanded over the years to include issues of globalization, peace and conflict resolution, the environment, women and gender, NGOs, civil society, microfinance, human rights, governance and international health.

LWW is a leading international publisher of professional health information for physicians, nurses, specialized clinicians and students. LWW covers subjects relevant to psychological and physical aspects of post-conflict reconstruction processes.

Living Justice Press:
Founded in 2002, Living Justice Press is a nonprofit organization aiming to publish and promote alternative works about social justice and community healing.

Lynne Rienner Publishers:
Lynne Rienner Publishers is known for its cutting-edge, high-quality scholarly books, textbooks, and journals in politics, the social sciences, and the humanities. Specific peace-related subjects include security and development, justice, civil reconstruction, and global


Founded in 1979, McFarland is a publisher located in Jefferson, North Carolina. Peace-related subject areas include foreign policy, education, women studies, leadership, and history.

McGraw Hill:
The McGraw-Hill Companies is driving the financial services, education and business information markets through leading brands such as Standard & Poor’s, BusinessWeek and McGraw-Hill Education.

M.E. Sharpe:
M.E. Sharpe is a privately held publisher of books and journals in the social sciences and humanities, including titles in economics, management and public administration, history, and literature. We also publish both original works and translations in Asian and East European studies.

MIT Press:
The MIT Press is the only university press in the United States whose list is based in science and technology.

National Academies Press:
The NAP publishes more than 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and health, capturing the most authoritative views on important issues in science and health policy.

NYU Press:
The Press has published major new, award-winning reference worksand distinctive works of scholarship in history, religion, psychology, literature, cultural studies, politics, sociology, film, and law. In addition, the Press has an established list in general culture, Balkan Studies, and has growing lists in such areas as Jewish studies, African-American studies, Asian-American studies, Latino/Latina culture.

New World Library:
New World Library has publications in terrorism, race, psychology, etc.

The Nordic Africa Institute:
The Nordic Africa Institute publishes books and articles concerning current African issues, policy dialogue, policy notes and discussion paper.

Novalis is the most important religious publisher in Canada.


Obris Books:
Orbis Books is a religious publisher since 1970. It offers a wide range of books on spirituality, theology, and current affairs.

Ohio University Press:
The press publications have series in African Studies, International Studies, Law, Society, etc.

Oxford University Press:
OUP covers subjects of law, history, human rights, religion, and regional studies.


Palgrave Macmillan:
Subject areas are governance, terrorism, humanitarian affairs, case studies, and history.

Paradigm publishes books on anthropology, communication, education, gender studies, history, ethnic studies, religious studies, as well as peace studies as general.

Peace Research Institute of Oslo: 

PRIO owns and edits two top academic journals, Journal of Peace Research (JPR) and Security Dialogue, and it is editorial home to two others, Journal of Military Ethics and International Area Studies review. In 2010 JPR and Security Dialogue were ranked among the ISI’s top ten international relations journals in the world.

Subject areas include religion, economics, leadership, history, etc.

As a leading international publisher in the social sciences and humanities, Polity publications cover the areas of sociology, politics, philosophy, history, media and cultural studies, gender studies, and anthropology.

Practical Action Publishing:
Conflict-related subjects include finance, development, humanitarian acts, etc.

Subject areas include psychology, justice, history, regional studies, energy, etc.

Princeton University Press:
In the social sciences the Press publishes in economics, politics, law, business, history, sociology, etc.



Rand Corporation:
Initially, RAND (the name of which was derived from a contraction of the term research and development) focused on issues of national security. Eventually, RAND expanded its intellectual reserves to offer insight into other areas, such as business, education, health, law, and science.

Random House:
Random House publications focuse on peace theory, history, religion, and leadership.

Rawat Publications:
Rawat Publications has been serving the academic community for the last twenty-nine years and has grown into one of the foremost publishing houses in India in Social Sciences and Humanities. Publication subjects cover sociology, anthropology, women studies, education, and economics.

Routledge is a global publisher of academic books, journals and online resources in the humanities and social sciences. Specific peace-related subjects are governance, regional conflicts, education, security, and peace operations.

Rowman & Littlefield:
Subject areas include leadership, gender, equity, human rights and regional studies.


Sage Publications, Inc.:
SAGE Publications is an independent international publisher of journals, books, and electronic media. “Known for our commitment to quality and innovation, we are a world leader in our chosen scholarly, educational, and professional markets.” Subject areas are gender, identity, communication, human rights, CR theory, etc.

Simon and Schuster:
Areas of focuses include religion, democracy, leadership, and case studies.

Springer US:
Springer publishes books in justice, psychological, energy, security, etc.

St. Martin’s Press:
St. Martin’s is a college publisher specializing in the humanities. It is the largest publisher of textbooks for college English courses, as well as a leading publisher in the disciplines of history, communications, business, etc.

Stanford University Press:
Stanford University Press publishes books in business, economics, law, history, security studies, as well as Middle East, Latin American, and Asian studies.

State University of New York Press:
SUNY Press sponsors nationally recognized and rapidly growing lists of publications in the areas of philosophy, Jewish studies, religion, Asian studies, political science, transpersonal psychology, women’s studies, queer studies, African American studies, Italian American studies, and indigenous studies.

Syracuse University Press:
Syracuse University Press publishes new and groundbreaking books in specialized areas including Middle East Studies, Judaica, Geography, Irish Studies, Native American Studies, Religion. An award-winning, independent publisher, the company publishes books in fiction and non-fiction, regional and national. Peace-related subjects include leadership, history, religion, law, and area studies.


United Nations Publications:
UN Publications cover a wide range of subjects, such as security, environment, human rights, humanitarian affairs, and international trade.

University of Hawai’i Press:
Growing from a largely regional press, University of Hawai’i Press has become one of the most respected publishers of Asian and Pacific studies titles in the world. Publications also include books and journals concerning Japan.

University of California Press:
As one of the most distinguished university presses in the U.S., University of California Press provides titles in history, leadership, case studies, justice, etc.

University of Chicago Press:
Publication titles range from anthropology, economics, regional studies to philosophy and psychology.

University of Illinois Press:
Subject areas include leadership, culture, gender, and race.

University of North Carolina Press:
UNCP focuses on subjects of gender, history, and anthropology.

University of Notre Dame Press:
UNDP peace-related publications include subjects of religion, peace-building operations, commerce, area studies, and history.

University of South Carolina Press:
USCP has publications addressing ethics, foreign policy, democracy, colonialism, identities, and culture.

USIP Press:
Following its mandate to promote the prevention, management, and peaceful resolution of international conflicts, USIP is committed to publishing significant works that offer new insights.

University of Texas Press:
UTP focuses mainly on history, anthropology, and area studies.



Main Subject areas of Wiley are peace operations, justice, peace ethics, history, etc.

Wilson Center Press:
Woodrow Wilson Press publications range from popular accounts of historical topics to fundamental reviews of scholarly fields to authoritative background on important policy issues.

World Bank Group:
The World Bank’s formal publications mainly include the acclaimed reports and a range of books that cover the full spectrum of economic and social development.

W.W. Norton & Company:
As an independent publisher since 1923, W.W. Norton publishes titles in economics, psychology, and sociology.


Yale University Press:
Contributing to a global understanding of human affairs, the publications of the Press include books and materials concerning history, economy, education, etc.


Zed Books:
Zed Books covers the areas of politics and IR, economics, development studies, gender studies, and area studies.
