Research Coordinator/Senior Research Associate, Intimate Partner Violence

Project Description:
To address the need for more innovation and design better Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) programs, IPA will partner with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and leading researchers to carry out initial scoping studies before advocating for expanding programs and large scale randomized control trials (RCTs). To facilitate more pilots and greater innovation, IPA and IRC will set-up pilot teams in Liberia to test interventions to prevent violence against women and girls. This project where address a critical need in Liberia and provide broader insights on ways to reduce IPV. In Liberia specifically, 39% of ever-partnered women aged 15-49 years experiencing intimate partner physical and/or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime, and 36% experiencing such violence in the last 12 months. It is also a context where there is some openness to talking about IPV, which makes it more feasible to conduct initial scoping studies to lay a foundation for broader research initiative.

Innovations for Poverty Action in partnership with International Rescue Committee seeks to hire a Senior Research Associate, or depending on experience, a Research Coordinator, to oversee a new research initiative focused on determining the underlying causes of IPV and finding solutions to this pervasive problem as well as new innovative ways to measure relevant indicators. The project aims to develop and pilot new interventions grounded in multidisciplinary research pulling from economics, public health, psychology, and other diverse fields. This position will be responsible for leading the project, field work, and partnerships with the IRC in Liberia. To do this, the Sr. RA/RC will work closely with IRC, the Principal investigators and other IPA staff to design and carry out the pilot studies and connect the work in Liberia with a broader effort to expand and improve IPV research.

Responsibilities 

•    Perform literature reviews, interviews with stakeholders and organizing workshops.
•    Coordinate closely with IRC to conduct multidisciplinary stakeholder meetings for ideation and implementation of new interventions.
•    Work with Principal Investigators to develop and pilot survey instruments and qualitative interview guides, including programming questions onto a mobile phone and managing the translation of the survey
•    Manage high-level logistics of large-scale field experiments, including managing budgets, timelines, and procurement
•    Ensure adherence to data quality protocols, including overseeing staff, in auditing enumerators, monitoring data collection, conducting data quality audits, and ensuring data security
•    Coordinate effectively with Principle Investigators; ability to lead research implementation independently wherever necessary
•    Hiring, training, and managing project staff
•    Manage relationships between various partners collaborating on the projects
•    Assist in data cleaning, data quality assurance and analysis
•    Ensure timely exchange of data and information between IPA and partners, including participating in meetings with key stakeholders and presenting research findings
•    Write periodic reports detailing research findings and proposed interventions
•    Ensure that all necessary research permits and human subjects approvals are in place
•    Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
•    Maintain compliance with all IPA policies and procedures

Qualifications 

•    Degree (Masters strongly preferred) in Economics, Public Policy, International Development, Social Work, International Human Rights, Law or related fields.
•    2-5 years of work experience working in the development sector; at least two years of research experience.
•    Strong knowledge of best practices and ethical standards in research on violence against women.
•    Excellent project management and organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail.
•    Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of statistical software; programming and other technical knowledge a strong plus.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including diplomacy and assertiveness with an ability to confront and discuss sensitive issues with respect.
•    Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
•    Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
•    Demonstrated ability to lead staff efficiently to achieve project goals.
•    Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently and a team player.
•    Experience working or living in developing countries.
•    Familiarity with randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental methods.
•    Two years’ commitment to the project based in Liberia.

Preferred:
•    International experience implementing, developing or evaluating Protection or GBV programs in environments with limited local resources and infrastructure
•    Strong working knowledge of Stata
