The Department of Political Science at Ohio University invites students with a 4 year undergraduate degree to apply for admission to our Master of Arts in Political Science. Our MA program offers the possibility of two years of fully-funded graduate study, and provides students with a variety of goals and backgrounds opportunities to do advanced research and work closely with faculty. Our faculty are noted for their teaching excellence, and they are engaged in interesting, cutting-edge research. Each year, some of our students continue their studies at leading law and graduate schools, while others go on to leadership positions in government service, politics, journalism, communications, business, and teaching. Our funding opportunities for new graduate include 14 departmental teaching assistantships with full tuition scholarships and stipends. Our program is a closely knit community of faculty and graduate students, with lots of room for interaction and professional development both inside and outside of the classroom. Our students benefit from a rigorous and flexible course of study, an accessible faculty with diverse interests and experiences, and excellent facilities for research and study. In addition to teaching and research in the traditional subfields of political science, the department’s 20 faculty research and teach in a wide array of areas including area studies, environmental studies, gender studies, law and society, public policy and administration, queer studies, and race and ethnicity. While earning their MA in political science, which generally takes about four semesters of full-time study, many of our students pursue graduate certificates in African Studies, War and Peace Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and other programs. We pride ourselves on providing an academically rigorous program that gives students the opportunity to explore various post-graduate career options while strengthening their analytical, research, and writing skills. For more information about our department and program, please see or department website at http://www.ohio.edu/pols/. Please feel free to contact the Graduate Director, Dr. Sarah Poggione, at poggione(at)ohio.edu if you have any questions.
Applications for admission to the Master of Arts in Political Science program are accepted throughout the year. However, students are encouraged to begin coursework during fall semester.

As an alumni, I just wanted to take a moment to recommend this university 100%. The thoughtful, intellectual community I found here at OU is unlike anything I’ve found since. It’s also one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever find and has ample hiking trails, swimming, recreation, etc. for an overall healthy and happy lifestyle. Graduating and moving out was the worst thing I ever did 🙂
