The Women PeaceMakers Program (WPM) offers a unique opportunity for women building peace to engage in a cycle of learning, practice and strengthening of peacebuilding partnerships through participation in a 12-month Fellowship. Knowing the power of women’s participation in peace and security decision-making to building more durable peace, the WPM Fellowship aims to drive forward stronger, more effective collaborations between women peacebuilders from conflict-affected communities and their international partners.

The WPM program is based at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (Kroc IPJ) at the University of San Diego’s Kroc School of Peace Studies. To learn more about the history of the WPM program, please visit: http://peace.sandiego.edu/wpm

2019/2020 Fellowship Focus: Strengthening Funding Partnerships Between Local Women Peacebuilders and International Funders
Four Women PeaceMakers and four individuals, who represent international non-governmental organizations, will be selected as a cohort to build mutual learning and stronger partnerships between women peacebuilders and international organizations who are working to end cycles of violence.During the 12-month Fellowship, the program will focus on Pillar II of the Kroc IPJ’s Peace Partnership Compact: Equitable Funding Partnerships, to strengthen and build more effective partnerships between local and global peacebuilders. This Fellowship will include the following four streams of work:

    I.) Residency

    II.) Learning Lab

III.) Local – Global Peacebuilding Partnership Change Project

Throughout all four streams of work a Peace Researcher will be learning from and with WPM, and documenting these key insights to inform a larger-scale change process. This process is focused on building more equitable funding partnerships between local WPMs and international peacebuilding funders.

Below maps out each of the above in more detail, including dates, location and what stream of work the WPM will be included in. Please note, our expectations of the selected WPM is that she actively participates in all of the WPM activities during the Fellowship.

1.) Residency – Women PeaceMakers Residency & Research

Who: Four selected WPMs and Peace Researcher

Who: Four Selected WPMs, International Partners they have identified to collaboratively work with during their fellowship and Peace Researcher

Focus: Prior to the Residency (between May to July 2019), selected WPMs will identify an international funding partner (IP) with whom they would like to work collaboratively over the next 12-months to build a stronger, more equitable and effective funding partnership.

III.) Local – Global Peacebuilding Change Project & Ongoing Research

    Dates: January 2020 – September 2020

Location: Home Country & Virtual Monthly Check-ins with WPM Program Officer

Who: WPMs, International Partner and Peace Researcher

Focus: During the Local-Global Partnership Change Project, IPs and WPMs will put the project plan they mapped out during the Learning Lab into practice. During this time research will also be conducted to capture key learnings and insights around this partnership’s project. This research will be leveraged to inform a greater advocacy effort the Kroc IPJ is driving forward on national and international levels to build more equitable funding partnerships.
