Call for Application: 5-day Workshop on Youth in Conflict Areas: Healing and Peace-building through Social Engagement (Age group 20-30)
August 25 @ 9:00 am - August 29 @ 5:00 pm
Youth from conflict zones in different countries/regions have been struggling for survival and are trying to return to normal life with whatever coping strategies they are able to evolve. Conflicts are of different nature. Some conflicts have been imposed by exogenous forces and some originating from within in the form of sectarian strife or civil war. People in conflict regions are affected in many ways that correspond to the nature of conflict. Some of the conflicts result in killing, genocide and mass destruction, while some conflicts push involuntary migration and the people end up in refugee camps inside or outside borders. Conflicts affect different sections of the society in different ways. The degree and extent of victimization often depend on the sex, age and occupation of the population living in conflict areas.
The youth constitutes a sizable section of the population. In a society, they are future leaders, as well as catalysts for change. It is no exaggeration that the youth suffers the most in conflicts, as they have to forgo what they have been dreaming. They are to bear bulk of the burden of post-conflict reconstruction. One major challenge in conflict areas is peace-building by healing wounds of the past and to move forward creating an enabling environment for mutual trust and confidence and thereby bringing all conflicting parties in the post-conflict reconstruction process. In this context, it is essential to understand the mind of the youth in conflict areas and to accumulate their experiences and knowledge how they struggle and cope in situations of extreme vulnerability and how they envision the future.
