The challenge of fostering peace and prosperity around world requires more than a project or a product; it requires a new system for building resilient societies and catalyzing economic growth—one that connects peacebuilders with social entrepreneurs operating in conflict-affected communities, and with impact investors seeking to make profit with a purpose.

Venture Peacebuilding is a new framework to tackle this challenge, one that leverages the creativity of social entrepreneurs and resources of impact investors to generate innovative ideas for peace and help them reach scale. Together, we will grow an ecosystem of people and companies focused on disrupting systems of violence, building peaceful and resilient communities, and reclaiming the $14 trillion of global GDP annually lost to conflict.

The Venture Peacebuilding Symposium

To that end, the International Peace and Security Institute is hosting a two-day, high-level Symposium will be hosted at American University on Monday and Tuesday, January 22 and 23, and will bring together around 150 leaders in impact investing, social entrepreneurship, and peacebuilding to explore one of the most pressing challenges of our time—how to transform conflict-affected communities into peaceful and prosperous ones. This event will kick-off a larger initiative that will foster increased collaboration between impact investors, social entrepreneurs, and peacebuilders through roundtables, trainings, pitch competitions, and an online platform to facilitate collaboration and investment in peace ventures.

The International Peace & Security Institute

The International Peace & Security Institute (IPSI) facilitates the transfer of knowledge and skills to a global audience through trainings and symposia focused on peace and security. Our Summer Symposia and Practitioner Intensives train leaders from around the world to better tackle global challenges of peace and security. Our Countering Violent Extremism Symposium in 2016 brought together almost 400 people over two days, with former U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Jonson and Senator Cory Booker in both attendance along with dozens of other leaders in the field. The Venture Peacebuilding Symposium will leverage IPSI’s core strengths and facilitate a global conversation where professionals from a variety of disciplines can explore how to foster innovative investments in business ventures that promote peace and stability.
