Picture yourself living in a country that runs almost entirely on renewable energy

Visualize yourself studying in a campus that offers 300 hectares of protected tropical forest

All of this is possible when you study at the University for Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica.

UPEACE is a United Nations-mandated university that offers Master’s and Doctorate programs in the fields of International Law, Environment and Development, and Peace and Conflict Studies.

Our campus includes 300 hectares of protected tropical forest and is the ideal setting to engage in stimulating conversations with students from all over the world. Our students come from all walks of life and every corner of the world. In fact, it is common to have students from more than 40 different nationalities in the same cohort. And they all have one thing in common: they are all striving to make the world a better place for everyone!

A Master of Arts at UPEACE consists of an intensive one year of academic courses in Costa Rica and a final graduation project. The language of instruction at UPEACE is English and incoming students are required to hold a bachelor degree or equivalent. The total cost of Tuition plus administrative fees is USD $19,500 (Financial Assistance is available).

The University for Peace’s more than 1600 alumni come from every region of the world. The vast majority of alumni often go back to work in peace-building capacities in their home countries and internationally, sometimes on the front line of conflict situations. Currently, the greatest percentage of our Alumni work for non-governmental organisations but many of our graduates go on to work within the United Nations system and in various other international humanitarian organisations.

UPEACE relies on a mix of resident and visiting faculty members to teach its face-to-face courses. The visiting faculty brings richness of knowledge and experience to the classroom, and affirms the international and multicultural character of UPEACE.
