COYPED to Host 1st National Youth Conference on Drug Prevention in Liberia

In commemoration of the 2017 International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, the Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development (COYPED) and partners will hold a two days National Drug Prevention Youth Conference.

The event will bring together fifty (50) youth and student representatives from the fifteen counties to discuss key drug prevention policies issues, role of youth in combating drug abuse and presenting a common position to the Liberian Government and stakeholders. The Conference would be a gathering of people from different walks of life; politicians, government officials, civil society leaders, entrepreneurs, business person, journalists etc. Above all, people who want to be a part of solution and prevent drug abuse.

The conference also support the Peer Education Program for Alcohol and Drug Prevention among Young People in Liberia Project being implemented by the Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development with support from UNODC, ECOWAS and funded by the European Union.

The Conference which is schedule to take place on the 22nd -23 June, 2017, at the YMCA Conference Hall, Monrovia, intends to bring together youth leaders and heads of youth focused NGOs spearheading the fight against drug, substance abuse and illicit trafficking within the country for the purpose of appraising the war against drug/substance abuse and illicit trafficking as it affects young people.

The Conference promises to create awareness on the dangers and consequence associated with young people getting involved in drugs and substance abuse. It will also stimulate discussion on possible suggestions on prevention, policy formulation and implementation as it affects young people in Liberia general.

The Conference will create a platform for interaction and sharing of ideas on the level of youth participation in the fight against drugs and substance abuse and illicit trafficking in Liberia and Africa. It will come up with communiqué and position paper on the possible solutions to drug/substance abuse and illicit trafficking in the overall development and wellbeing of young people in Liberia which will be submitted to the regulatory authorities for consideration and actions.
