  1. Varied Paths to Success

There are many roads to success in international development and the leaders in our field have diverse and interesting backgrounds. Join us to hear how some of our best and brightest got where they are. Hear about mistakes they made along the way, detours they took, plans that panned out and those that didn’t, and much more. Our speakers have worked in law firms, government agencies, humanitarian organizations, consulting firms, small businesses, tech firms and more. Learn how they moved from A to B and the varied routes they traveled to get to where they are today.

2. The Next Generation Professional

Development professionals a decade from now will not look the same. Innovations in technology and finance, changes in the way we communicate, and so much more will affect the skills you need to have to succeed in this field. Jobs in international development – and the skills required to perform them effectively – are changing radically as the development field and the world transforms. Devex, USAID and DAI collaborated on a report released last summer, The Next Generation Professional, in an attempt to characterize the future of development work and predict what will help people in international development thrive and excel. This report is a follow on to an earlier one released in 2015 and shows the need for major changes in the required capabilities and career paths of development professionals, including learning new technology, skills and approaches in order to excel in the future. Our panelists will tell you what they learned through their research to help you keep pace with the dramatic transformation impacting the human capital and talent landscape of international development.
